Poultry, including chickens and ducks, have three types of photoreceptors, perceiving a broader range of wavelengths than humans, with varying sensitivity to different wavelengths. The National Institute of Animal Science conducted experiments on how many eggs hens lay over 59 weeks under different light sources, such as incandescent bulbs, white LED bulbs, and red LED bulbs.

The results showed an increase from 251 eggs under incandescent bulbs to 271 eggs under red LED bulbs, indicating that suitable lighting varies for laying hens in egg-producing farms.

In the case of chickens, exposure to light stimulates the secretion of hormones, promoting an increase in egg production.

In South Korea, natural daylight hours vary daily between approximately 9 to 15 hours. Artificial lighting can prevent seasonal laying only during specific periods.

When light intensity drops below a certain level, chickens cease feed intake. Maintaining brightness 24 hours a day can induce maximum growth.
